The Wilko's recommended the island helicopter tour as a "MUST DO", so off we went. The weather was not so flash, but we had a great guide who was very knowledgeable and made the most of the 1hr flight for us. It is very hard to get fantastic photos because of the reflections in the chopper, so we bought the video to make up for it and it was amazing. You get to fly over the Waimea canyon, the fabulous Na Pali Coast line (which is inaccessible from land) and all of the old farm lands that made up the island way back when farming actually made Hawaiians money. Now there is only 1 coffee plantation and a few cattle farms on this island.
Looming dark clouds as the chopper before ours takes off
Dylan loved every minute of it
We were lucky enough to get the front with a glass bottom so you can see everything under your feet as you fly over it
The start of the Na Pali coastline, 14 miles of jagged cliffs inaccessible by road, 3000 feet above sea level
Flying into the Waimea Canyon, 10 mile long gorge, 2 miles wide and 3600 feet deep
Amazing colours in the rocks but hard to see here
Back over to the Na Pali coast
This is shot is from the movie "Soul Surfer" where Britney was surfing before she got her arm ripped off by a shark. They swam over this coral outcrop to get back to the beach so the shark could not follow them
A little rain interruption, as we fly into Mt Waialeale, the highest point on Kauai which produces 400-500 inches of rain a year and contributes to the islands water reserves
The biggest waterfall on the island Waimea Cannon Falls, this is the one in "Jurassic Park"
More amazing Na Pali cliff faces
These two bays were in "Pirates of the Caribbean" and "Six Days, Seven Nights".
Lyndon and Emily enjoying the ride
There was pretty much 360 views around the chopper which made sure you didn't miss much of the scenery
All out safe and sound, only wishing it had gone on for longer
