USA - Las Vegas

Welcome to Vegas Baby!!!!!! Jodie had been waiting years to get here and finally here we are, making it even more exciting was the fact that we were planning to renew our wedding vows, just shy of our 12th wedding anniversary. Lyndon had been to Vegas before, with Scott and 2 other navy boys, but that was a way different type of holiday! Unfortunately for us it was the coldest May on record and we froze our butts off in the middle of the desert. We even had to go and buy scarves, gloves and beanies. It is such a fabulous place, even the kids had a ball, just wondering up and down the strip checking out all of the weird and wonderful things, amazing shops and great restaurants. Jodie loved it so much she is planning to go back for her 50th birthday and some of our Tongan friends have even said they will join us. It may even turn out to be a Fab 5 reunion....look out Vegas if that is the case!

Vegas airport - pokies and all! The strip by night, the view from on top of the Eiffel Tower

We stayed at the MGM Grand,( http://www.mgmgrand.com/ ) which was down one end of the strip and just spent our time wondering around amazed at the enormity of it all. It was such a huge complex with plenty to do, 6 different swimming pools (although only 2 could be used by the kids) heaps of restaurants and great shops (although a bit out of our price range, it was still nice to look).

25 check in desks and a night time advertising bill board on the outside of the building, way bigger than anything we had ever seen

Emily and Dylan spent heaps of dimes trying to get them into the mouth of this croc, and just hanging outside the lion cage.

Even though it was freezing we still had to go for a swim... and of course the 1L frozen margarita

Lyndon reliving his youth - apparently this is the exact same spot he had a photo taken with Scott 10 years ago

Next stop, Margaritaville - home of the fabulous Jimmy Buffet. After spending 6 yrs in Cairns listening to our friend Jim rave on about Jimmy, we just had to go to his restaurant, named after his most famous song. Great atmosphere, interior design, entertainment, food and of course Margaritas - Jodies' favourite - a 1L Midori version. Definitely a great place to eat if you see any of these restaurants in your travels around the world.

Look out here we come. The kids spent 30mins trying to get the ring on the hook and managed it 6 times each. This is the game in the foyer they get you to do whilst waiting for your table.

The monster margarita, this lady slide out of an exploding volcano, down into the jug and was then pulled out
by the fishing hook - very interesting indeed, according to Lyndon

The entire place was decked out like a boat marina in the Florida Keys and then Jimmy comes on to sing "Margaritaville" accompanied by the staff

Next activity - The Lion King - a live theatre event at the Mandalay Bay Resort. Absolutely amazing, we had great seats and the kids were just amazed at how real all of the characters looked, it was great to watch their reactions throughout the performance. Some of the characters came into the theatre and down the aisle where we were sitting so we got a great close up view of the costumes and make up. If you ever get a chance to see the production you must absolutely do so!

A quick stop at the Sphinx Casino on the way to Mandalay, us after the show, unfortunately you can not take pictures inside the theatre, so here we are outside.

Another night out was at the Beatlemania Tribute, a great show with absolutely everyone up and dancing and singing along to all of the classic Beatles Tunes. We got some autographs at the end of the show and found out that "Ringo" was from Cairns so we had a bit to chat about.

Then there was the exploding volcano outside the Mirage Casino.

And the truly amazing water and light show at the Bellagio
