Nuku'alofa Fishing Club Yearly Awards night

The award night was planned at short notice and as Lyndon was away in Oz, Jodie had to front up in case Blah Blah or Lyndon took out any awards. It wasn't the best night down at the club as the weather turned and with wind and rain it was very friendly under what little cover is available. In all though it turned out to be a great night for our team/ boat. Taking out Best Male angler, Best Jr, Best Boat and Dyl also picked up his two certificates for his National records.

Tony took over as the speaker for the night. Eva picked up best female for her mighty Mahi Mahi from last years TIGFA championships.

The weather scared off most people but the die hard fishermen and women turned out.

A quick break in the weather and the kids were into it. What else should you do at a fishing club?

Neil Jenkins presenting Dylan with his Certificates for his National records. One very happy boy.

Emily's 12th Birthday.

Yet another Birthday without Dad around. The Day started off with a few pressies at home before heading off to school.

Notice Pooh Bear is still number one after all these years.

Birthday's in Tonga mean you take a big cake in for everyone to enjoy, a sure way to make friends for lunch.

The big event for this year was a sleep over with a difference. The entire garage floor was covered with mattresses and then the fun bagan. Excited? I think so.

After a quick suger burn it was time to load up with some more junk food and open some presents.

Next activity was water games starting with water bombs.

The flying fox made for a great moving target.

Em's favourite dinner mince rolley ups.

Then back down stairs for some more jumping around like mad women. Green is Em's colour this year and Jodie made sure there was plenty to be seen.

Crazy times continued into the night.

Fuelled by more sugar and marsh mellows they struggled and giggled on for a few more hours. This is Emily's pillow birthday cake. Lucky for mum she bought the marsh mellows back form OZ as there were no marsh mellows in town this month.

Eventually the silence was defining so Jodie snuck down and took a quick snap shot, 3am and they finally fell asleep.

The next day it was time for some more arts and craft and to make a memento of their time with Emily.

Nothing can beat a little ballon work with what seems to be lots of snakes being created.

The final take home art and craft products from the girls. Good use of coral and shells and especially the green backing.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY EMILY.

Emily our little creative sole.

Emily has been working on this puzzle for weeks and finally finished it, she was so proud and we were so amazed that over the weeks that she hadn't lost a single peice.

A true artist, she has even discovered new mediums now and taken a shine to plasticine. This is ruppunzel in her tower just incase you forgot

After Dee took Steve's first Emily Quirke commission master peice home to Ireland, Steve has had to commission Emily for yet another Tongan Rain drop in Digicel Red. Jodie joined Annie and Steve at a Digicel launch and I saw this pic and wondered who they modelled this character off ??? Maybe Sal my brother of another mother???

Lyndon's Social events from the Cairns Slipping

During my time in Cairns I managed to squeeze in a few different events. There was one special one and as everyone knows Jodie's is mad about her "Cairns Amateurs" horse racing events and as luck had it I was in the thick of things.

Just for Jodie, the gates to her Heaven.

All smiles - what else does a bloke need - a Members tickets, a Crowny (in date) and gourmet food.

Did I mention front seats for Fashions on the field. Now that just topped it off.

Another good point is if you get away from the table you can also see the nags come down the home straight.

Winners are grinner's. Nothing better than making a small withdrawal.

After backing all of Jodie's usual suspects which I now think even after 2 months some are still running, I decided to back one just for it's name "Blue Balls" or it  sounded something like that in my mind so that was it. But guess what, she came in!

While in Cairns I also managed to join in a few Hashes with the Cairns HHH. Same drinking games but the markings and lack of kids had me scratching my head at times not to mention the lack of stray dogs making you run that little bit fast like in Tonga.

After a not so snappy water pump impellor change out over a few nights we squeezed in an arvo trawl. Chris fowl hooked this travelly in the top of his head. One up bro.

Reel men use rods to catch their muddies! Not quiet up to my normal Tongan fishing but a wet line will always bring a smile to my face especially if family is there to share.

I joined the boys one night at church to watch them practice for a cultural show. They where bolstering  the local Tongan community. Wasn't so sure about the kava bowl in an Aussie church though? Nice to have a Tongan feast though.

As luck would have it the stars had all aligned, possibly for all the wrong reasons as Scott's mother and Jodie's grandma had both passed away recently, with both funerals in Brisbane and the day after each other. Unfortunately I had a specialist medical appointment in Brisbane on that same day. The silver lining was that after 3 years apart we all could come together over a few ales at Scott's mums wake to recall the good times and support each other in our times of loss.

The next morning I said goodbye to the family and headed off to my appointment sadly though I had to fly directly back to Cairns to continue my handover with Dave and my future replacement Jonathan Kick (AKA Footy). Jodie and the kids headed to Grandma's funeral.

With no way of saving my tooth and no way of returning to Tonga with it cracked to the base, it was simple... Rip her out! It made for an interesting hand over - lots of nodding.

On the last night in Cairns, Scott and his family flew back through which also gave us a few hours to catch up again and for him to meet the new guy coming to his Island. The kids didn't think much of the pub but muddies play ground on the Esplanade was a hit. Look into my eye boy!

Nic was quick to hide her drink but I think she'll need a few more to get through the next two flights.

I flew into Auckland and caught up with Shayne and Leilani who dragged me out to meet all the girls from Jodie's NZ adventures with Leilani.

The surprise came when Jodie and the kids touched down after midnight and we were all there to meet them.

One last photo before we had a few hours sleep before flying home to Tonga as a family.

Jodie's Quick visit to Australia

The middle of July saw Jodie take a quick trip to Oz as our (her) Nana had had a stroke and wasn't doing so well. Most days were spent with Nana Marks between her rehab classes. She also managed to catch up with her sister and mum while in town and squeezed in a little retail therapy.

Nana recovering well and feisty as ever.

Yet another happy snappy from the ward. Some of Nana's days were better than others. She had plenty of photos and get well cards to keep her company in the hospital when she didn't have her visitors.

Only needed Em and it would have been 4 generations.

Nothing like returning to a winter wonder land not to mention the total loss of any fashion sense. With winter in Tonga reaching 23 degrees overnight, Jodie was out of her depth on those 5 degree Brisbane winter nights

On Jodie's return flight the memories came flooding in as she flew over her old Sydney town.

September Gradings with Master Paul

Lyndon was disappointed that he was in Australia for this last gradings of the year, (his last gradings in Tonga also) as he missed out on catching up with Master Paul and the crew that came over from Sydney for the event. Oh well, there is always next year - only difference is we will have to fly over for a holiday to join in.

Emily's turn for sparring during her grading assessment

Emily and Dylan at break time looking a bit hot and bothered

Emily being congratulated by Chief Instructor Josh as she has passed to the next level - blue belt, brown tip

Would you mess with this bunch of crazy Tongans and a little palangi?? The seniors of the class - brown and black belts.

As usual we hosted the after party at Cheateau de Quirke which was a fun night

Out came the kava bowl in honour of Master Paul, all the students sat on the mat to drink kava and pay their respects

Our lovely kava ladies, Nesioloa, Ebonie and Pua
